With cold temperatures and wintry precipitation impacting Arkansas’s capital city, our team members have been working the last few days to keep our residents safe, warm and dry.
We mobilized our temporary emergency overnight shelter on Sunday (Nov. 30) at 6 p.m. and it will be open again overnight tonight from 6 p.m. until 9 a.m. Tuesday. The shelter is available for any resident who needs a place to stay during this weather event. The emergency overnight shelter is located at Dunbar Community Center, 1001 W. 16th St.
City officials in coordination with our Emergency Management Division staff will monitor weather conditions throughout the winter and will mobilize the overnight shelter when warranted.
The City of Little Rock’s warming centers at our community center locations will be open six days a week for any resident who may need a warm place to seek refuge. Warming center hours are Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Available community centers are Southwest Community Center, 6401 Baseline Road, and West Central Community Center, 8616 Colonel Glenn Road, as well as Dunbar during times when the emergency shelter is not mobilized.
In addition to our shelter preparations, our Public Works Department team has been working hard to make sure our streets remain as clear as possible during any winter weather event.
Because of the potential for freezing rain that could have impacted travel conditions for the morning commute, Public Works crews were out at 3 this morning to begin pre-treating possible trouble spots, such as bridges and overpasses.
Crews are working throughout the day to make sure the roads stay safe, so please give trucks plenty of space if you see them on the roadways this evening or Tuesday morning.
During winter weather, road crews work around the clock to clear the roads and protect our residents.
We appreciate our team members who go above and beyond to serve our residents when winter weather occurs.
