Friends,
In Arkansas, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. We owe it to our mothers, daughters and wives to raise awareness of this disease and the importance of early detection, We know that early detection can significantly increase survival rights.
The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a month when we emphasize breast cancer awareness because we know that doing so may help save lives. At City Hall, we are proud to partner with our health care community to elevate the message during October. To kick off the month on Wednesday, we are joining UAMS’s Paint Arkansas Pink initiative. With this initiative, residents, businesses and organizations across the state are placing pink signs in their yards in a message of support, and love for those facing breast cancer, survivors, and those fighting for early diagnosis and prevention.
As UAMS notes, the custom-designed signs “are more than decorations — they’re daily reminders of the importance of early detection, regular screenings, and the strength of survivors.”
As October approaches, I encourage you to obtain a yard sign and join us as we Paint Arkansas Pink. Request a sign by emailing UAMS’s Leslie Taylor at leslie@uams.edu.
For our City team, this initiative coincides with our annual events to raise awareness of breast cancer and all forms of cancer, like the Toya Robinson Pink Picnic, which we hold every October. We honor the memory of Toya, who was a valued City Hall team member, as we stand in solidarity with all who are dealing with cancer or have lost loved ones to this disease.
We must unite to remind those impacted by cancer that they are never alone. I know you will join me in doing so in October and throughout the year.
I appreciate you!
