Friends,

We are making significant progress in our efforts to prevent violence and make Little Rock a stronger, safer City. Through the first four months of 2025, violent crime is down nine percent compared to a five-year average, with overall crime down close to 20 percent.

Our holistic violence prevention strategy keeps residents and visitors safe as we work tirelessly to change the perception of crime in Arkansas's capital city. Still, there's much more work to be done.

With summer approaching, we cannot lose the momentum generated by the hard work of the Little Rock Police Department and our prevention, intervention and treatment team. This comprehensive approach to crime prevention is making a real difference.

This summer, we will put a special emphasis on the innovative and productive ways we are working to eliminate violent crime, and we will employ new strategies to stop the unsafe, illegal activities that could potentially lead to violent crime.

That includes the practice of caravanning and reckless driving. During the summer months, LRPD receives a higher number of reports about these kinds of activities. They are not just a neighborhood nuisance. This behavior is dangerous and it puts lives at risk.

Anyone who engages in street racing, impeding traffic through carvanning, driving in a way that damages property, or speeding through neighborhoods should expect to receive a traffic citation at minimum. Vehicles could also be impounded, depending on the circumstance.

LRPD is mobilizing additional officers on weekends to enforce our traffic laws, and violators will be caught and prosecuted.

As we approach summer, this is just one of the multiple strategies we will use to reduce crime. We are eager to share more details about our strategy for a safer summer and a stronger city later this month.

In the meantime, we know there is more work to do, and more than ever, we appreciate the LRPD, our City Departments that focus on prevention, intervention and treatment, and all community stakeholders who are making Little Rock a safer, stronger city.

Mobile City Hall Success

Our Mobile City Hall program is the best way for residents to engage with our team members and take care of city services without the inconvenience of coming Downtown. And last week, dozens of residents took advantage of that opportunity when we hosted Mobile City Hall at Saint Mark Baptist Church in Midtown.

I was grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from you about community needs and take questions about how the City is working to address important issues.

We offered City jobs on the spot to qualified applicants and had several people address District Court matters. We fielded code enforcement complaints, took police reports, played some fun games with our Parks and Recreation team, and had encounters with animals from the Little Rock Zoo.

Not only that, residents could pick up books for their kids from the Reading in The Rock initiative, learn about Little Rock's 311 service, and find out so much more about the role of every city department.

We appreciate our hosts for last week's Mobile City Hall, Pastor Phillip Pointer and Saint Mark Baptist Church, for their support and hospitality.

We want to make Mobile City Hall an essential, impactful event that no resident wants to miss. Stay tuned here and on our social media channels (Facebook, X and Instagram) for more information on the date and location of our next Mobile City Hall!
