Friends,

April is Global Volunteer Month, marking a great opportunity for us to share our appreciation with Little Rock residents who give of their time and energy to make our City a better place to live, work and play.

In 2024, volunteers tallied more than 38,000 hours of service to Little Rock in a variety of ways, from working at Little Rock Animal Village to cleaning up storm debris. Volunteers are the superstars of civic engagement, and we encourage everyone to check out ways to serve the community.

One upcoming opportunity is Saturday, April 26, with our annual "Impact The Rock" day of unity and service. "Impact The Rock" is held every April, and there are service projects scheduled for every ward.

On Saturday, volunteers will fan out across the City starting at 9 a.m., then convene at 11:30 a.m. at Reservoir Park, 8321 Cantrell Road, for lunch. Reservoir Park, in Ward 4, was significantly damaged by the March 31, 2023, tornado. Volunteers have worked hard the last two years to help us clean up Reservoir Park, as well as the Rock Creek Trail, where earlier this month we planted thousands of new trees.

Here are locations for "Impact The Rock" volunteers on Saturday:

  • Ward 1: Litter pickup in coordination with the Downtown Little Rock Partnership. Meet at 101 E. Capitol Ave. to check in.
  • Ward 2: Meet at Benny Craig Park, 4610 Gum Springs Road, to join the Central Arkansas Master Naturalists, and hop in an Audubon Delta canoe to clean up litter from Fourche Creek. Clean-up along the shores and in the park is also needed.
  • Ward 3: Help the Little Rock Zoo prepare for its annual fundraiser, Wild Wines, which is scheduled for Saturday night.
  • Ward 4: Bring gloves and shovels to help plant trees at Reservoir Park, or help with mulching and other needed work.
  • Ward 5: Clean up Rock Creek Trail (trailhead located behind the shopping center at 200 N. Bowman Road). Bring gloves and litter grabbers. Bags will be provided.
  • Ward 6: Join the Little Rock Sustainability Office team to pick up litter from Kanis Road. The meeting point is the parking lot of 7400 Kanis.
  • Ward 7: Help with animals at the Little Rock Animal Village, 4500 Kramer St.
Please consider giving back to your community through "Impact The Rock" and join us at one of our locations for this day of service and unity. Click here to sign up and for more information.

Save the Date!

We had such a great success at our first Mobile City Hall in Ward 2 that we are going back out into the community to do it again! The City of Little Rock's next Mobile City Hall is Monday, May 5, at Saint Mark Baptist Church, 5722 W. 12th St.

At our Mobile City Hall, you can receive city services at your convenience and in your neighborhood, since we are putting the "go" in government and moving City Hall out of downtown. Whether you need to pay a traffic ticket, file or obtain a police report or get interviewed on the spot for one of our job openings, Mobile City Hall is for you.

There will be representatives from every City department on hand to answer questions and provide resources. During the second half of the event, I will join city department directors for a town-hall style meeting where we will answer your questions and get your feedback.

There is plenty for all ages, including outdoor games from the Parks and Recreation Department, animals from the Little Rock Zoo and equipment from the Fire Department, Police Department and Public Works for kids to see and touch.

Mark your calendars now for May 5 at Saint Mark Baptist Church. Whether you live in Ward 3 or anywhere else in Little Rock, we can't wait to see you at Mobile City Hall!
