Friends,
Over the last three decades, the City of Little Rock has forged strong partnerships with the local business community to provide meaningful work experience and a paycheck to hundreds of our young residents through our Summer Youth Employment Opportunity (SYEO).
Little Rock residents ages 16 through 21 may apply for a summer job with the City or with one of our community partners. This is truly an opportunity for our young residents, who earn money and learn essential job skills while staying busy and productive during the summer months.
We encourage young Little Rock residents looking for a summer job to apply online. Applications close on March 30. To be eligible for this six-week, paid employment opportunity, you must be between the ages of 16 and 21, and you must live in Little Rock.
Little Rock's Summer Youth Employment Opportunity runs for six weeks during the summer, and participants work 32 hours a week. Over the course of SYEO, many participants have obtained permanent, long-term employment. All of them are learning valuable career development and financial literacy skills that will last them a lifetime.
SYEO is just one component of Little Rock Career Climb, our focus on making sure we meet the education and job-readiness needs of our residents from cradle all the way to a productive and rewarding career.
This year, we are asking local businesses to help support the SYEO initiative, since each year, more residents apply for a summer job than there are positions available because of funding. Support of the program enables youth to work in a meaningful role within a local business.
Those businesses interested in becoming worksites should complete the worksite application available here. That application closes on May 9.
As a reminder, residents interested in applying for a SYEO job opportunity have until March 30 to complete that application.

R.O.C.K. Academy Reminder
This Friday, March 21, is the deadline for residents to apply for R.O.C.K. Academy, our program tailored for residents to gain a greater understanding of how city government operates. R.O.C.K. Academy is an excellent step toward active involvement in City boards and commissions, or as a volunteer for multiple projects and events.
R.O.C.K. is an acronym for Residents Obtaining Community Knowledge, but participants obtain more than a basic municipal civics lesson at R.O.C.K. Academy. Participants engage in activities, visit City offices and have dialogues with City officials and department directors.
Through R.O.C.K. Academy, we are building a stronger, more resilient Little Rock through collaboration and cooperation with our residents. At the same time, residents are able to see what it really takes to provide exceptional service to residents of Arkansas's capital city.
Together, R.O.C.K. Academy participants and alumni support the City as we make positive change and build a better community for the next generations.
Please consider applying for this six-week program before Friday's deadline. To apply, visit visit our website.

Pick It Up, Little Rock!
We are almost a year into our coordinated City initiative, Pick It Up, Little Rock!, to beautify our community and keep litter off our streets and out of our neighborhoods. As our dedicated "Litter Czar" Ward 4 Director Capi Peck will tell you, making Little Rock litter-free takes all of us, including so many community partners engaged in beautification efforts.
That's why we truly appreciate nonprofit organizations such as Keep Little Rock Beautiful and the hundreds of volunteers who spent much of the day on Saturday, March 9, focusing on litter pickup during Keep Little Rock Beautiful's annual citywide clean-up event.
More than 600 of our residents, including members of Rotary Club 99, joined Keep Little Rock Beautiful to focus on removing litter from roadways and from Fourche Creek. And, while these events are great ways to show your support for the environment and the City we love, the best way to reduce litter is to "Pick It Up, Little Rock," when you see it, every day.
Another great opportunity for involvement and engagement in the effort for a more sustainable, cleaner Little Rock is next month. Saturday, April 26, is our annual Impact The Rock Day of Service in conjunction with National Volunteer Week. Look for more details soon!
